yapgs is just what its long name indicates: yet another population genetics simulator. it was written to help students familiar with basic concepts and models of popgen increase their familiarity with the models and get a deeper understanding of the concepts. it requires a computer running bugs95 (aka windows 95) or higher, or a good emulator of it, a graphics board and monitor with a minimum resolution of 600*800 (higher highly recommended; it actually works with 640*480, but i don’t recommend it), and a mouse. it looks best with small fonts.
it has a simple, intuitive interface (if at times a bit cluttered). hopefully, users will feel encouraged to do "what if" experiments. for the time being, models are only mutation, and natural selection (for diploid populations). more are planned.
there is no on-line help, but there are numerous operational hints throughout. users familiar with expressions like hardy-weinberg, (darwinian) fitness, and genetic drift, should have no trouble using the program. i expect that those unfamiliar with such buzzwords, sorry, keywords, will find the program pretty much useless.
yapgs has no financial support from any funding agency -- or anyone else, for that matter. it was written by me, in my "spare" time, out of love for my students (and sympathy for others').

yapgs is free. however, due to its very preliminary status, i ask you not to distribute it to anyone. if you feel so inclined, please give them the address of this home page instead, so they can get the latest version.
if you like yapgs, and would like to contribute to its development, send me your comments. if you don’t like it, do send me your comments anyway :). reports of undesirable features (yapgs has no bugs!) would be especially appreciated. you may also want to let me know what a great job I did :-). for pan or praise, e-mail is fine, but a postcard would be oh so nice...
