Research

My research interests are in the field of intermolecular interactions with special focus on hydrogen bonding. This include spectroscopical (vibrational spectroscopy) and theoretical (DFT and ab initio) aproaches to study the problems ranging from small organic molecules (specially C–H···O interactions) in the liquid phase to organometallic systems which display some interactions that are not available in common organic systems (M–H···H–M and R–H···M interactions).

Presently I am condutcing research in the field of Environmental Mass Spectrometry. The work aims at two fold: 1. Study of the degradation intermediates of organic pollutants and its implication in remediation procedures. This is relevant in the establishment of procedures for pollutants (pesticides, for instance) waste recycling; 2. Study of Secondary Organic Aerosols from biogenic sources based on the role of hydrogen bonding.

Projects ongoing

Ongoing research activities are being developed in close collaboration with Dr. John Tomkinson and Dr. Felix Fernandez-Alonso from ISIS Facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, STFC, Oxon, UK.

Research in collaboration with ISIS facility is aimed at the study of intermolecular hydrogen bonds (Dr. John Tomkinson) and to the development of advanced materials for gas storage (Dr. Felix Fernandez-Alonso) assessed by means of neutron spectroscopy.
